Overview of Shisha

Shisha is a type of embroidery done on the surface of textile for stitching small mirrors to get a pretty design. In reality, the phrase 'shisha' means mirrors. This style of embroidery, known as mirror work, is pretty prevalent in India as well as neighboring countries. Initially, components of mica were employed to get yourself a reflective surface, but those were subsequently substituted with tiny mirrors. Nowadays, sequins and plastic mirrors are also used at times, but glass mirrors carry on being used and they are believed to be considerably better and traditional.

Traditionally, 'shisha' was developed from blown glass, the back of which was painted to get it more reflective. Then, it was carefully cut or broken. It continues to be used as well as the final product is called 'antique shisha.' Such bits of 'shisha' are valued because of the slight flaws that creep all the while making glass manually, and the alteration in their size and shape, because of hand cutting. 'Perfect shisha' or 'embroidery glass', as it's often called, being made on machines, is thicker and it has no imperfections of shape or size.

'Shisha' must be firmly connected to the cloth so your latter can carry the load in the mirror or 'shisha.' This method works especially well on textile having bold prints in bright colors, where mirrors together with pretty stitches give you a different dimension on the overall design. Mirror embroidery can often be implemented to improve the beauty of bags of varying sizes, hangings, clothing and household furnishings. Mirrors form a fundamental element of the general design. They may form an element of the motifs arranged in geometrical designs or why not be positioned inside a flower.

Simple straight stitches in many directions are applied across the periphery from the mirror to secure it with the fabric. The edges from the mirror are somewhat rough, so that they can retain the thread plus the fabric, thus maintaining your mirror in its desired position. Traditionally, the fastening of mirror on the fabric is performed through stitches only, without having to use any adhesive or glue. Those decorative stitches down the periphery of the mirror not just support the mirror available, but also go to form a design component.
